The blur and sharpen tools are referred to as the “focus” tools since they work to harden, or soften edges within an image. The tool most recently used will show in the toolbox, so the blur tool may not be the one on top. Choose the tool you want from the pop-up menu. ![]() To access them, click on the blur icon (the one shaped like a teardrop) and hold the mouse button down. The sharpen, and smudge tools are hidden under the blur tool in the toolbox. ![]() You can cycle through the blur, sharpen, and smudge tools by holding down the Shift key while pressing the shortcut letter. The only thing to remember is that subtle effects work best.The keyboard shortcut for the blur tool is the letter R. You can use this kind of selective Blur to increase focus of an object, a part of the body (like the face, the eyes) or an area. As you can see the effect is subtle but noticeable: Try to be careful and not to paint over the background. Now let’s say that we want to put focus on the girl in the middle.Īdd a layer mask (Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All) and with a soft black brush paint over the face and the upper body of the girl sitting in the middle. Press Alt + Backspace to fill the layer mask with black and move it a bit upwards (press Ctrl + Shift + Up arrow once): Paint in the layer mask over the back of the car to create an illusion of motion.ĭuplicate this layer by pressing Ctrl + J.
